    JA Compress plugin, a Joomla 1.5 plugin developed to provide optimization / compression of CSS and JS files for Joomla site has now been released as part of JA Extension Club.

    The It provides functionality to use two open source libraries one is Minify and another one is SmartOptimizer.

    Features:

    1. Choose between the two libraries to achieve best performance.
    2. Option to exclude single or multiple css / JS files. This is quite helpful, as not all the files like to be compressed or optimized.
    3. Option to check server cache or client cache.
    4. Option to choose optimization, Combine CSS files or use both options together.

    Special Notices:

    1. As a beta version, you must use it at your own risk. Things should be fine with CSS merge, however Javascript merge & compress can raise problem if your website use many javascript.
    2. DO NOT use it for livesite unless you have tested them carefully
    3. If your website are not rendered correctly, try to disable JS merge, or put important js file on the exception list

    With the help of Yslow , a firefox extension, we ll see how the speed & the http request has been optimized.

    This I am sure will be a very popular plugin. Blooming annoying that I first saw it for download on a warez site.:mad:

    It funny they even have some JA template download before we release or when is still in development, especially those with teaser or concept preview.

    Perhaps they just give fake files to attract sign up or some kind of VIP access purchase

    Anyways, back to the topic

    It will be nice if someone can post his result after using this plugin.

    I’ve just tried this with JA_Zinc on my localhost with all the settings turned on. This uses minify, css & JS compression as well as ccs & JS merging into one. The results are superb.

    This, in my view one of the best plugin ,we need him from a long time to resolve the problem as
    slower opening pages of the sites joomla .
    Installation was successful and became the my site faster , now really is the fastest .

    Don’t you think it should be free for Template Club members?

    JoomlArt template are great but way too slow to load. This should be a built-in feature in all templates.

    Totally agree, this should come free with the template club. All JA templates have vast amounts of scripts and way too many http requests.

    No, I don’t think it should come with every template. All template clubs suffer from a similar weight issues. A lot of this is to aid versatility, to aid ease of customisation and partly down to the way the joomla template system works.

    This plugin will probably work with any template, not just JA ones.. It is also another reason to become a developer member.

    Dear Phil,

    Other template clubs are developing similar plugins for free (not only for template club members). I don’t like to mention competitors, however Rocket Theme has developed a plugin called RokGZipper, which does the job, however it does not work with JoomlArt templates very well. 🙁

    JA Compress is unique, as it also allows to exclude one or multiple css or JS files. Plus it offers usage of any of the two renowned compress libraries (minify or SmartOptimizer).

    To release it as JAEC / Developer only or for the JATC members is a policy decision of JA, onto which we can not comment. JA did release many free plugins / modules along with release of JA Teline III. It would be unfair to say that JA is neglecting JATC members. Developer and JAEC members also need to be supplied with their promised share of goodies.

    I agree, this should be a free component for JA Template members, it should even be included in the templates. When you are building and designing the templates for members, performance features/functionalitys should should be one of the selling points, not a after-thought that members have to pay additional for.

    They do but it should still be free, template providers in general should really try to make the templates less bloated, I know this is sometimes difficult but there are so many http requests that are unnecessary, take teline 3 as an example there are 22 style sheets which is verging on ridiculous and 12 scripts.

    Or an excuse to make the templates even more bloated so that we are forced to part with more money in an attempt to make our sites load within reasonable speed 😉
