Hi,

It will be hard to custom categories list form to Link types as you describe, cause It also relates to search & filter function. We can help you to custom change to type Radio button, then you choose Filter type to Auto Filter, you will have Drop down List like Link List

Yes, it will be hack. And if you update the extension, it will be overwritten. Pls backup before updating.
