Will you be releasing an upgrade of JA_Lead to work with the new versions of Joomla? As a customer who has had a membership for quite a few years – this is becoming more important – I have customers who will need to upgrade their joomla sites – and want to keep the same design.

As far as I am aware there are currently no plans to upgrade this particular template.

Is there another template that is similar enough to JA Lead that you would reccomend for an upgrade to 2.5?

Not really one very close. It would take quite a bit of work to achieve exactly the same look. A lot has changed in the world of Joomla and the associated templates since then particularly things like the menu system etc. Take a look through the demo and see if something fits your needs
