    Hey guys,

I am a moderate to advanced Joomla user, and this issue has me ‘stressed’.

I am building many websites for a magazine publisher, and as part of the project we are using the same base template, but only changing the words, logo, colors, etc. We are using the Purity III template

The issue, is that one site takes around 60 seconds to load, where as the other site is very very quick to load.

    slow site: http://www.caravanningoz.com.au

    Fast site: http://www.agbiz.com.au

(there are some minor differences on the caravanningoz.com.au site on the home page, but thats about it. Infact, I am working on the 3rd site right now, and it is a direct copy of the caravanningoz.com.au site and it is running in development mode, and its very very fast to load).

Let me be clear about one thing…I am not asking for tips on how to speed up my website…I already use Siteground VPS, I use cache_lite, and I do use JCH Optimize (but I have this disabled on both sites for testing purposes). These sites will be further optimized later.

    Both site:
    – are on the same VPS
    – have the same extensions etc installed
    – use the same setup and were built from the same template

So, what i can’t figure out is why http://www.caravanningoz.com.au is loading so so so much slower than http://www.agbiz.com.au (and the dev site that i can’t show you right now)…these are all the SAME websites. (in case anyone suggests its the extra things I have on the home page of caravanning, I already tried un-publishing all the ‘different’ module positions so that both sites had the exact same home page…and there was no difference in speed).

    Any ideas guys and gals?

Hello i checked your slow site , and found it has installed many third party extension and >> http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/daDM9T/http://www.caravanningoz.com.au/
the issue of the slow site is because of loading time of the first byte in your site .first byte taking around 20sec to load ,thats the issue the site is too slow , Generally this issue is comes because of the poor DB connnection , and in most cases Hosting plays an important role .
You need to improve you caching performance ,
+ You need to contact your service provided as the issue is on your sever
I sagest you to to used a powefule cache so that your site works well .
Sorry fir not being much help in this case, such kind of works are out of JA support scop. (

Hello I appreciate your post, but i need to go back to my original post.. the 2 sites listed above are the EXACT SAME sites…same joomla template, same Extensions, same everything..just different colors. So what is DIFFERENT with the slow site…while your post is appreciated, it didnt answer my question, as both sites have the same many extensions installed, yet one is fast and one is not. Also as mentioned, both websites are on the same VPS..therefore using the same database optimization, same caching etc etc..they are the same, yet one is slow.

My host is excellent (the reason why i mentioned Siteground VPS) and so is caching etc,,, its the best I have EVER seen in over 10 years of web dev.

    Hello austenn01
as i mentioned above the issue is from the first byte load time , that is taking too much time , most cases its because of the slow database connection . I request you to please contact to your hosting company to look into this , as you already know the problem is not with the template. You need to optimize your php codes manually . such supports are out of JA support scope .
Still i am referring it to our Development team for further review on it .

So going back to my last post….Both sites are on the same VPS. So if what you say about the issue being a slow database connection…wouldnt I see the issue on the other site that loads fast (and my other dev site that is a 100% direct copy of the slow, but yet it doesnt have any caching enabled, no minification etc).

So again, why would one website that is the same as the other 2 be slow, IF the issue was the server?

Ok, I solved the issue, but I have no idea how this came to be.

The slow site has cache enabled in global config (siteground uses cache_lite..its good!)…and the configuration.php file clearly shows this is enabled.

So the issue = there is NO public_html/cache directory present in the live site.

Since my new dev site was created from a copy of the slow site (when the slow site was running fast)..The new dev site does have a /cache folder. This means that the slow site DID HAVE a /cache folder. So somehow this folder has been deleted. I am the only one who has access to ftp and cpanel, and did not delete the /cache folder.

    Anyway, that was the problem.
