how do I remove the previous next buttons ? they only appear on the French side of the site?

Hello
You can turn off the article navigation from Joomla article options or from the Menu options as well.
Go to article manager >>> Options>>>Articles>>> Show Navigation >>> Hide

If you want to do this for a menu . Then open the menu >>options >>>Show Navigation >>> Hide
