nothing that would hinder this particular module. All the other modules work perfectly.

I would try unpublishing the most recent ones just before noticing your problem to see if JA-News starts working again. There are a number of extensions that do affect JA-News.

what extensions have caused problems with it? Are there any known bugs?

I couldn’t even tell you what plugin i’ve put in and when i noticed the problem. 90% of the time i’m just publishing the items and making sure on the front end its working (the content).
