JA Jason is only compatible with Joomla 3.7.5, I suggest you to wait for the template update as we are in process to update the templates.
Always take backup of the site before updating Joomla.

I have seen that ja_jason template has been updated the 20th of december. Does this mean it’s compatible with joomla 3.8 ?

Yes, the template is ready for Joomla 3.8.3.
You can take backup of the site and update the template.
