Is it possible to get JA Showcase to appear on one of the pages of JA Cloris. As far as I can see only modules can be placed on pages, but how to place a component ?

A component is a component and can be published to any page. Are you having difficulty doing this?
Am I misunderstanding how you want component used?
Here is a great Joomla doc explaining components and how they are used.
