Attached pic you will see I have changed the background of the article from white to black, but I would like to change the padding (which is white in the pic) to black as well for this particular page.

Hi
its a bg image applied on the content background , you can replace it with your color or image using the custom.css file
Here is the code that is running at this time

.t3-mainbody > .row {
    background: url("../../../../images/mainbody-bg-3.png") no-repeat left bottom / 100% auto;
}
