I want to put an article(s) on the frontpage just below the Slideshow. According to the userguide this is the Body module position, but the “body” position does not show up on the list of positions. Please help.

Body position is the joomla output. You can set the article to show on frontpage, that alone should work well for you. You can control the number of articles and other parameters by setting the Home menu item in the menu manager >> main menu >> Home >> check for settings on the right side.
