when trying to install quickstart on localhost (MAMP, latest version) I get a big error message when I click ‘next’ after entering my database info.
reviewing the forum, I made the recommended changes in the proper sql file from ‘TYPE’ to ‘ENGINE’.
Trying to install after this change then gets me to pages further on the install. Now I get to the page where I enter my admin info and when I click ‘next’, I then get the following message: ‘The most recent request was denied because it contained an invalid security token. Please refresh the page and try again.’
It all ends there for me. No idea what to do. And since I’m not a code guy but an end user who wants to be good at Joomal, but not php and whatever else there is, please don’t give me code advice. I might mess things up and it’s really someone Joomlart’s job, because that’s why I’m paying an annual membership here: to get functioning templates.

Trying to install the quickstart package on the server gives me the same result. I’m using Bluehost as my host of choice. When trying to install the quickstart packages there, I don’t get the sql/ databse error message, but still get the ‘…invalid security token’ message at the same point in the installation as described above. Again, it ends there for me. don’t know what to do other than to sit and wait for someone to provide an update to the quickstart files.

This happens when trying to install JA Teline IV and JA Methys as well. Same thing, same message.
Happened with JA Minisite as well, the only difference: although I got the same message when trying to install on Bluehost, running the installer a second time worked all of a sudden, although I did exactly the same thing. No such luck with the other templates !

it’s very disappointing! I decided to use Joomla because I wanted to use a CMS(!) with a pre-made template. I don’t want to play web designer – my focus is on content and not on code !!!
You are the pros and code wizards!! Be so kind and fix this so that an end user like me can just use it!
    Thank you!

The install problems you are having here are nothing code related but due to the way you have MAMP configured. If you want to check first download a standard copy of Joomla from http://www.joomla.org/ and see how you get on. If that still fails then we may be able to help if you post the exact error message that you are getting. I do not use Mamp myself so I may have to resort to Google to advise you. Please try a standard Joomla install first then take not of the exact error messages you get.

Standard Joomla installation works fine, no problems. Clean template-only (the basic template files of either JA Methys, JA Teline IV and JA Minisite) installation works well too and all extensions downloaded install without problems (only JA slideshow needed the recommended change -ENGINE=MyISAM instead of TYPE=MyISAM – in the sql files in the installer in order to work )
It’s only the quickstarts that won’t install, not on the localhost and not on the server (Bluehost).

As described above, when trying to install any of the quickstarts for JA Methys, JA Teline IV or JA Minisite, I get to the install page where I enter my admin email, username and password. When I click ‘next’, instead of getting to the page with the note to remove the installer before I can use Joomla, I instead get a blank page with the following message on top: ‘The most recent request was denied because it contained an invalid security token. Please refresh the page and try again.’

Even if I could change something in MAMP to help with this on my local installation, I certainly can’t make any changes to the server software settings!

I assume you are not worried about the MAMP install then but only the live one?

well, if I could get a hand in setting up MAMP correctly on my local machine, build up my website and then use Akeeba backup/kickstart to transfer this to my live site later (hoping that it would work when installed using that method) , that would be fine.

Yes, I can sit down and rebuild the demo template configurations (which I like a lot) using the detailed instructions in the tutorials, but it would just be so much nicer if I could just install the quickstart for the respective template with all details in place already so that, as suggested, I can use that as an easy starting point.

If I can get that accomplished on the localhost or on the live site first matters little, just want to get started, well, quickly !

Note: I successfully installed JA Minisite on the live server, although I initially ran into the problem with the ‘invalid security token…’ message. Just tried it again, ran the installer a second time and then it just worked.

Tried the same trick with JA Methys and JA Teline IV, but no such luck. I still keep getting this message about the invalid security token
as described earlier when clicking ‘next’ after entering my data on the ‘main settings’ page of the (Joomla) installer.

The invalid token message is usually coming because of a timing issue on the server. I have tried and tested all the templates you are having problems with and they are working absolutely fine. I would suggest in this case having a word with bluehost and getting them to check their error logs. It may be a simple adjustment they need to make.

No problem. I will see if I can borrow a Mac from work tomorrow and try setting up MAMP on it. I no longer have a Mac of my own after it got nicked. I cannot promise though as it all depends if one is available.

ok, I contacted Bluehost and the tech there ran the installation of the JA Methys quickstart for Joomla 1.6.
He never got the message re ‘invalid security token’ (he said he’s never seen this message) and the install seemed to work ok,
but then got to the login screen…. looks normal, but it is not displaying the fields for user name and password.
He did not get beyond that erroneous/ ‘field-less’ login screen.
That’s the latest on that! I guess I’ll have to wait for the next iteration of the quickstart files and try my luck again.

I can assure you the quickstarts work as expected.

If you can post me all your details I will try and do an install for you. Please inlude cpanel logons, ftp details and MySql details in your PM. It would also be helpful if you could include a link to this thread in your PM too.

ok, ok, shame on me !! Lots of it !!

thank you again, Phill for all your help here!
I’m almost ashamed to present my ‘rookieness’ in this manner but maybe it helps a few other knuckleheads like me, who also have their triggerfinger ready, pushing buttons before they should!

What do I mean by this?

Ok, read my rants above about all the error messages and weird things I was getting when trying to install the quickstart packages on my localhost and my hosting server.

Phill looked at it and this morning he posted that it all works well for him and he has no problems installing the quickstarts and he offered to do it for me. So I thought: what in the world would he do differently when installing it than what I have been doing?!

So I took my time and tried it again, this time very s-l-o-w-l-y !!!!
Yes, I still replaced ‘TYPE=MyISAM’ with ‘ENGINE=MyISAM’ in the installation>sql>mysql>sampledata.sql , or I would receive error messages after the step where you enter the database info. But only on the localhost with my version of MAMP (1.9.6) .
This was not necessary for the server installation on Bluehost.

Ok, so now I’m in step 6 of the Joomla installation, the configuration. I watched my Joomla tutorials closely, but they didn’t mention this little crucial detail:
When I clicked the button to ‘install sample data’, I clicked ‘next’ right away and all my troubles described above started then…

Well, doing this step very slowly, I realized that I should wait until the button says’ sample data installed successfully’ and only then click ‘next’ in the Joomla installation process.

And this was the oh so simple solution to all my problems! works like a charm now, localhost and on the server as well.

Thanks again Phill for your wisdom and your patience!

Thanks for coming back and resolving your thread. Good luck with your site.

As previously mentioned, I thought it could be a timing issue with the sql being slow but your explanation of what happes show it is that combined with a flaw in the Joomla installer. IMO the “Next” button should get greyed out for a set time after the sample data installed successfully message appears. I will suggest that over at Joomla.org.
