May 20, 2011 at 12:29 am #164223There was a time, before the various frameworks, when customizing your site was easy:
You needed a new position? Just insert the syntax in index.php of your template and you were pretty much home free.
This is still possible, but the template is no longer portable as you need to modify the core of the JAT3 code in the plugin directory.Another thing I used to do frequently was to insert PHP snippets in the index.php file. For instance, to make the home page behave a certain way or target a certain component. Ditto as above in that regard.
I realize that now we are supposed to be able to create these different “layouts” and such, but so far I have been unable to make them work. I followed the wiki and I did everything I thought I needed to do, but the site ignores my input.
To say I am frustrated is an understatement.
For instance, what I need to do today is to simply override the CSS of this div:
<div id="ja-content-main" class="ja-content-main clearfix">Naturally, through the menu (In joomla 1.6) I can assign the page a class, but these rules are associated to the DIV immediately below this one, so I cannot touch the parent at all.
I’d be curious to know how Joomlart would like us to handle a situation like this one. Is there a tutoriual I can follow?
For instance, I tried using the template manager to create a new “profile” so that on the home page I could choose not to display the main content area. I then assign the home page to this new profile. and save.
Nothing!
It’s really very frustrating. I am all for frameworks and the ability top make these changed without getting your hands dirty, but either I am missing something very basic or this thing was designed by a sadist. Can someone point me to a tutorial that explains in detail how to customize an individual page in Joomla 1.6 if I am using the T3 framework? Or how to use the T3 framework to do those simple things I used to do before this fancy framework came along with just a couple of lines of PHP that now require setting endless popups and radio boxes to then discover that nothing works
I can’t be the only one with this problem. Thank you

I am sorry, but it was not easily forme to understand how it worked, especially since the change I made which was supposed to work only on the home page instead propagated sitewide.
Let’s take as an example what I need to do today:
The component area has a certain CSS stuyle I need to override but only on the home page.
Unfortunately, that style is above the div I can control by adding a suffix in the menu. Before the framework came into play, a simple PHOP conditional would have alloed me to duisplay some inline CSS in the header to override the external css. Now, I ahve been trying for hours but I cannot do something that simple. Heck, I don’t even know where to insert any PHP should I want to try to do that.
What we need in addition to the wiki is some case studies. Some examples where we can see how some problems are approached. Then the rest of us can figure out how to do what we need, but the weiki is far too scattered to make any sense of it and the framework has changed somewhat as well so titles and pictures are different now.

Sorry for this but I don’t understand your idea very clearly. Coud you tell me:
– Which template are you using?
– As I understand you want to add class for pages by PHP code. could you send me the link and tell me how you want the class like.
Thanks.
