Articles in Magazine layout (not default) do not show up

I am using joomla 4 with the free purity iii template, I have it set to a corporate default setting and I duplicated it for using the magazine layout for a few pages on one section, and assigned which pages the magazine section needs to be active at. The articles do not show up at all in the section I want them to.

If I directly enter the URL displayed in the link field ( index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=purity_iii:magazine&id=16 ) then everything works as it should. But if I enter the alias, or click on the link from any other page (which automatically gets replaced by the alias) none of the articles show up.

I managed to reproduce the behavior on a new, fresh minimal Joomla install on my own computer. The site and database can be found here:

it's a jpa archive created with the akeeba backup extension which I also use to deploy joomla sites. It can be unpacked on any webserver using the akeeba kickstarter:

akeeba is not needed to reproduce the bug - it was already reproducible before the akeeba plugin was installed. the only installed extensions were
- template Purity iii
- T3 plugin
- JCE editor

System setup:
On localhost:
Apache/2.4.41 (Ubuntu)
PHP 7.4.3
MySQL 8.0.27

On the webserver:
Apache(Debian)
PHP 7.4.26
MySQL 8.0.27

I hope this is sufficient to reproduce and debug the issue.

I can't access backend of your live site now so I restore that backup file, it turns out that you've not set any article as Featured article yet. In the magazine layout, it will show featured articles there.

I just tried to set current articles as Featured and they all show up:

thanks, The articles show up now.
I thought the category was the only thing that needed to be assigned to them, I missed that the articles need to be featured as well.
