Please try the standard Joomla install (from Joomla.org) in the same location first and see if you get the same errors. It looks like a hosting problem.

Yes, it looks like something in their setup is incorrect, probably the sessions save path. Speak to your host and they should be able to help.
Another thing to try is using an FTP client rather than trying to unzip directly on your server.
