Hi
its seems to be something wrong with your Joomla . first, I suggest you to disable all 3rd party extension from the site and then check it , May be some of the extension not ready for this version .
Also, you can take backup of the site and install it on localhost then install the Joomla again via Manually install .
If this does not work , may be something serious issue , I suggest you write the post on Joomla forum , so someone from Joomla forum team will help you out .

Hi,

Thank you for the advise.

It was a third party extension which happened when I upgraded 4 extensions and went to Joomla 3.6.0

All is working now.
