Content slider seems to work properly, if you don’t forget to set auto run to YES. It is not by default as stated.

Do not bother with var $absolute_path, I do think this is an old request liked to Joomla 1.
There should not be this kind of manipulation for Joomla 3.

The description mean, you need to set path on Select Source option: Image Folder
