Problem with Open Graph

Hi, on a JA-Trip-based site, the Open Graph code is triggered only on articles and the article's intro image is displayed.

On all other pages, and I'm particularly interested in the home page, it isn't triggered even though I've inserted a correctly sized image in the "Images" metadata field in the Open Graph tab of the Home menu item.

As mentioned, it appears at the article level, so the template is already set up correctly for Open Graph.

Any suggestions?

Hi Francus,

Here’s what I did to attempt to replicate that issue:

Enabled the Open Graph option in the Global settings of the template.
Added a metadata image for the home menu item.

However, when I tried to share the page via Facebook, for instance, it displayed the correct image.

As I wrote in the opening message, I enabled Open Graph, and indeed, when menu items are linked to an article, the article's intro image is displayed correctly.

However, despite having set a specific image as you showed me, the HOME page isn't displaying any open graph.

The page's HTML analysis doesn't detect Open Graph, and a test like the one you suggested shows this:

In a couple of days at most, the site will be on the permanent domain. I'll post the link so you can check it out for yourself.

The site is now online. I included the link in the opening post.

As you can see, if you search the home page's HTML, you won't find "og:image," and the Open Graph information isn't triggered.

However, if you look at the HTML of any page linked to an article, everything works fine.

What could be the problem?

Obviously, as mentioned, the image has been inserted into the Open Graph image field in the home page menu item (metadata image).

And just to clear, yes, it has been enabled.

Do you see this information in the home page's HTML? I don't.

Don't rely on Meta's test, which fetches another image if it doesn't find a specified one ( and in fact, that's not the one I chose).

Test by trying to send the site via WhatsApp.

The OG information is only rendered if the menu item is an article.

In all other cases, it isn't.

I've discovered this problem in other templates as well.
In all pages the Open Graph parameters are printed correctly except for the Home page.

The reason for this discrepancy is that Joomlart templates' home pages are set to Featured Articles, which is the trick used to only use modules on that page.
And if there's a menu item set that way, the properties aren't printed.

Testing the Meta page doesn't make sense; data from the page and the meta descriptions is collected and used.

The real test is to insert the link into WhatsApp and see what happens.

Or view the page code and note that the OG properties are missing.

Don't you think it's worth fixing this since all your templates have the Home page set to Featured Articles?

Hm .. strange thing .. happen to me exactly the same!

Why is it weird? It's a bug, and obviously it happens to everyone who uses this template.
I had to use an extension to get the result, and I hate having to install extensions if I don't need them.
But unfortunately, no one bothered to fix it, and I wasn't able to do it myself.

Thanks for your reply.

I tried it, and obviously the settings are all correct, and only the article pages print the OG properties.
Any page that only has only modules, and Home is one of them, doesn't print the OG properties.

I've also experienced this in other templates (e.g., Vega), and the exact same thing happens.

Hi Saguaros, thanks as always for your reply.

Both sites are on client servers with IP filtering.

I'll set up a clone on my domain so you can see for yourself.

In any case, and I even tested it this morning, just install a Vega or Trip quickstart to see the problem. If you open the page source code in your browser, you'll see that the OG properties are only rendered in the "articles" pages.
But, as I said, I'll send you a link to a demo as soon as I can.

Obviously, if you can figure out what the problem is, it would be appropriate to post the solution here for everyone's benefit, including myself, as I have to fix several sites with this problem.

Hi Francus,

Please make sure the Open Graph option is enabled in the template settings, and that the OG information is added as shown in my screenshots. This should work correctly for the homepage.
