How to change the menu color and bgcolor in purity III ?

Hello,
how can I change the text color and th bgcoler of the navigation menu with theme purity III (version 2.1.1, Joomla 5) ?
I found some posts that tell me that I have to create a custom.css.
Where do I have to put this custom css and what's the code that i have to put in this file ?

From the template dashboard, go to the 'Tools → Edit Custom CSS' menu, then add your custom CSS to the textarea editor.
