Jomsocial and Joomla 6

I see in the latest Joomla Community magazine that the first Alpha release of Joomla 6 is due next month with an anticipated stable release of Joomla 6 in mid October. That's only six months away, just within the scope of any subscription renewals at this point. Can the Joomlart team provide assurance that Jomsocial will be compatible with Joomla 6?

We’re closely following the development of Joomla 6 and the upcoming alpha release. While the stable version is anticipated around October, it’s still early to make concrete compatibility plans for JomSocial until we have a clearer picture of the core changes and how they might affect our extensions.

Once Joomla 6 is officially released and we can evaluate the updates and improvements it introduces, we’ll be in a better position to decide on the compatibility roadmap for JomSocial. Rest assured, maintaining compatibility with the latest Joomla versions is always a priority for us, and we’ll keep the community informed as things progress.

There are already know part which are deprecated and will be removed into Joomla! 6. So do-you plan to make Jomsocial working Joomsocial without the need of compatibility 6.0 plugin ?

We will require additional stable versions of Joomla 6 for testing purposes.

The concept will remain the same as the Joomla 5 update, wherein Jomsocial will function without a backward compatibility plugin.

JomSocial’s native User Points System is designed to reward users for actions — for example, posting or uploading — and allows you to configure how many points are granted in each case. However, it doesn’t support buying points, nor does it allow spending points to unlock features or content out of the box.

If you're looking to let users purchase points, you’d need an aftermarket solution. There are third-party extensions (like “Buy Points for JomSocial”) that enable this via PayPal. For spending or deducting points for specific actions, custom development or logic would be needed.
