How to style a module using LESS files

I hope that someone will be able to assist. I am using a "Latest Article" module in a T3 template and wish to style the way that the articles are displayed in the module. How do I find out what LESS variable is controlling the display. Specifically at present the article link box is showing as a black box and I have nearly given up trying to find which LESS variable is producing the black background.

The Less code is different compare to the css codes and it will work when you turn on development mode from the template style options.
I need the page URL on which the module is showing to give you code.
