I've never templated for 1.7 before (just 1.5) what I'm wondering is are there differences in the <name> tag in the templateDetails.xml file between 1.5 and 1.6/1.7 versions? The reason I ask is because I'm trying to change the template name and usually I just change the <name> tag in templateDetails to name the template and then change the template folder to match what I name the template (in 1.5). When I do this in 1.7 though, the name doesn't change and it throws a 500 error in the backend.
Is there another place I need to add my template name to change it from ja_t3_blank?
You can change the name of the template (if that is what you want to do) by going to:
Extensions> Template manager> Put a click next to selected template> Click edit> Change template name> Save & close.
I tried following the instructions from the links you set but it won't seem to work for me. I can't seem to find the language.ini file either. As soon as I change the template folder name to match the name set in templateDetails, the frontend view of the template disappears. In the image I attached below, all I need to do is change the template name. What extra steps are there in 1.7? In 1.5 it's really easy to change this value.
go to /template and change the name of the template folder then go into that and change the name of the template in both the .xml's and possibly in params.ini The go to /language/yourlanguagewouldgohere/ and look for the template name .ini, change that name to the exact same name as your new template. CASE MATTERS.
While you are doing this you site will loose its template. You should do this on a "NON" default template. Once you've completed these steps go to extension manager -> "discover" have it "discover" Your template should then be in your template manager.
set it to default and you should be back in business.
You may or may not have to change a few lines in index.php depending on the age of the template and the programmers expertise.
be sure too look carefully @ all files ( .ini and .xml and index.php ) for the words your changing.
oh, this is all done from the "file" level of course not the gui
I'm working with Joomla 1.7 and the T3 framework for J.1.7.
I developed my own template based on the ja-t3-blank template. I wanted to change my template folder name and followed the steps as described by n6rej on a non-default template. But for some unkown reason it is not working.
After the "discover"step in the Extension Manager the new template name appears, but when I go to the template manager something goes wrong:
1) In the template manager - Styles: nothing has changed (see picture): template name is still ja_t3_blank and template does not open. It gives a 500 error with "Error loading form file". When making the template default, the website does not show the template but gives an error The template for this display is not available.
2) when lookin in template manager - Templates the new template name is found together with the ja_t3_blank template (see picture). When clicking the Preview link, the website appears with the template and offcourse the overlay
After changing the template folder name back to ja_t3_blank everything is working again and none of the changes made in the templateDetails.xml file or other files can be seen
Can someone please explain what is going on and how to make this work?
PS I cleared the cache several times during the whole proces.
Apart from the template folder name, I changed the templateDetails.xml file, the info.xml file and the languages files.
But as I wrote before, changes made in the templateDetails.xml file don't show in information bar in the Template Manager. It almost seems that somewhere else changes have to be made.
In the mean time I found a "solution" After renaming the template folder and other files, put the language files in the template folder. Zip the template folder and install the zip file again. After doing this everything is showing as suspected and working fine
