active class for top menu

Does anyone know how to show the active items for the top menu, in the main menu is an id called active_menu but it does not work for the top menu.

Is there any way to recreate this active class?

Normally, if you have a active_menu id, the top menu should be in active status when you are in a page which is submenu of that top menu.

I have seen some people have this problem which has something to do with item ID of joomla. The very first thing you can do is to delete the submenu and create again. The new menu will have different ID which may fix your problem
