View Full Version : JA Submit wishlist?

hello Joomlart users!
first of all, Ja Submit is a great component, especialy the fact that i dont need to hack anything to allow users to write articles (which i'm using on an anime/manga fansite, so you understand the importance of such a component)
i'm also grateful that it supports multilanguages, as users will mostly use english and arabic characters.
but what i've noticed while working with Ja Submit is that it lacks a few features and other times it has just the right thing, but with a bit of configuring it would be just great.
1. the main problem i came across is the lack of Section choosing. i had to choose the multiple categories (and i had a LOT!) and hoped that would fix it, but i was wrong, as i had an anime section and a manga section, each having the diffrent genres inside (drama, romance, horror etc) so what happened is that i ended up with duplicate genres in the drop down list!
(for example one drama links to the anime genre, and the other drama links to the manga genre) but there is absolutely no way to know which one is which. for now i'll try to go about with this (or consult with the other site administrator to find a quick solution for this)
but it would really help to have the section and category chosen as the joomla 'add content' page (you choose the section and based on it , the category list is loaded)
2. for some reason super administrator isnt allowed to publish directly even though i had it highlited in the allowed user permissions. i hope its not something with my system, but i'm mentioning this in case somebody else had this problem. (i solved this temporarily by using 'the unpublished content' module, and from there i edit and publish my own content.)
3. the user/registered/public user permissions just confuse me. could someone please explain the diffrence between those three? :-[
4. when i accidently click on a link outside Ja Submit. it 'does' tell me that i have to cancel or save, but by the time the page reloads to give me the option to either save or cancel, my content is already lost :confused: isnt it supposed to like, cancel any action untill i choose to save/cancel??
5. it would be great if registered users wouldnt have to see the name/email fields as they are already registered, is there a possibility to make the full name/email fields disappear when a registered user is writing a post?
sorry for the huge scary post, but i tend to forget often and wanted t o write it all down before i did :-[ i hope this is helpful to the developing team and/or future developers of this component.
keep up the great work and good luck with your other projects!

I think JA Submit is very cool but I agree with all of the comments above.
In particular I have the same problem with identical category names in different sections and so until I can choose by section JA Submit is useless for my purposes - it just creates a long list of repeating identical categories.
I think this type of taxonomy is not uncommon in Joomla users:
Section1: Red Car
Categories: Small, Medium, Large
Section2: Blue Car
Categories: Small. Medium, Large
etc
JA Submit seems to be good and I look forward to when I can select by Section.
Thanks for a good component.

If this is the official wishlist thread then
Ability to choose if the item shows on the front page would be great.
I'd also like to see the Section/Category distinction as used by Joomla instead of one big box.
Thanks,

Hi,
I couldn't find any answer for this, so I guess it is a missing feature.
It'd be nice to force users to login before writing/sendind an article.
Bye!

Great component just a few things missing...
1) I third the request for section/ categories selection... maybe to could look at mycontent or even the old Ted Tieken hack for Mambo....
2) Improve the mail notification flow. instead of sending email to list of emails (which is already a great step from the build in email to admin), one should be able to assign publisher email per category or section.
E.g. User A posts to Section B, publisher C gets email to approve.
User A posts to Section C, publisher D gets email.
3) could you explain whether the two autoapprove settings are linked or separate.
is it A) autoapprove if (group=admin AND cat=newsflash) or B) autoapprove everything from admin to any group and autoapprove from everybody posting newsflash.
4) any hint for an ETA for new version?

I did have same problem but now no more ;D
Well, my solution is as follows:
Install JA Submit 2.1
Make JA Submit access level in menu item as registered
Modify ja_submit.html.php (in folder components\com_ja_submit) in line 181 & 185 to become:
<td><input class="inputbox" type="text" name="created_by_alias" id="created_by_alias" size="50" maxlength="50" value="<?php echo $my->name; ?>" style="width:200px;" readonly /></td>
<td><input class="inputbox" type="text" name="email" id="email" size="50" maxlength="50" value="<?php echo $my->email; ?>" style="width:200px;" readonly /></td>
Using the method, you will make the submit content button (JA Submit) to be accessed only by registered user.
Then I lock the user name & password so that the user will have to use his/her registered name/e-mail.
Not a perfect solution, but at least it does the job.

Some thing I have had complaints about.
. If someone goes through and writes their article, and adds images - if the image for some reason is rejected, their whole article disappears. I have the image size set large so that is not usually the problem, but it still rejects on occassion.

Great component simple, to install and configure......but the way your entire article will dissapear if you make a mistake uploading an image is annoying and i think users will just give up if they lose their work like this.
Otherwise perfect for me

Hi Everbody
I have installed JA_SUBMIT and using it,
It is very useful components for me and works very well
4 users of my site had been assigned as EDITOR and they can SUMBIT topics/items to my site WITHOUT ENTERING Admin Panel
What is my question is that;
How those publishers CAN DELETE (already submitted) Topics/Items without entering Admin Panel?
Any Idea?

This would be a nice feature and really should be standard now days!

I know this is a free component. But I still hope the developers will consider to go on with the improvements.
Now, I also make a new feature suggestion:
specify image directory for each category
When submitting an article, if the users want to insert images in the content, then these images will be stored at somewhere. But webmaster has no idea how to manage these images by category.
So I think there should be an extra option of specifying image uploading folder for each category at backend. When users upload an image, we are sure where the images will go.
Thank you very much !

Hello.
Not patient enough to wait for another version of this (great indeed) component, I decided to tweak it a little. Not all the wishes from the above wishlist were simple enough for me to handle (my php and SQL are - I'd say - basic), but a little tinkering with the code I already had in ja_submit.html.php was enough to solve some of the requests: after my modifications the labels in the "Choose category" drop-down menu are constructed like this: "Section/Category" - and in alphabetical order (the categories within each section are in alphabetical order, too). So if you have, for example, sections: Manga and Anime, and in each of them you have categories: Drama, Romance, Horror, Hentai:p , then instead of:
Romance
Drama
Horror
Drama
Hentai
Hentai
Romance
Horror
You get:
Anime/Drama
Anime/Hentai
Anime/Horror
Anime/Romance
Manga/Drama
Manga/Hentai
Manga/Horror
Manga/Romance
All you have to do is edit ja_submit.html.php in the components/com_ja_submit directory on your server. Find the HTML drop-down menu part:
<select name="catid" id="catid">
<option value="NA"><?php echo _H_CHOOSE_CAT; ?></option>
<?php
$database->setQuery( "SELECT * FROM #__categories");
$database->query();
$rows = $database->loadObjectList();
$avaiCats=explode(",",$H_avaiCategories);
foreach($rows as $row){
if (in_array($row->id,$avaiCats)){
echo "<option value=\"";
echo $row->id;
echo "\">";
echo $row->name;
echo "</option>";
}
}?>
</select>
And replace it with:
<select name="catid" id="catid">
<option value="NA"><?php echo _H_CHOOSE_CAT; ?></option>
<?php
// Tweaked by Michal Romaniszyn
//Get section data, sort by name
$database->setQuery( "SELECT * FROM #__sections ORDER BY name ASC");
$database->query();
$sections = $database->loadObjectList();
//End Get section data
//Get available categories list
$avaiCats=explode(",",$H_avaiCategories);
//For each section:
foreach($sections as $section){
//Choose categories in this section, sort by name
$database->setQuery( "SELECT * FROM #__categories WHERE section=" . $section->id . " ORDER BY name ASC");
$database->query();
$rows = $database->loadObjectList();
//Add as options, category by category
foreach($rows as $row){
if (in_array($row->id,$avaiCats)){
echo "<option value=\"";
echo $row->id;
echo "\">";
echo $section->name;
echo "/";
echo $row->name;
echo "</option>";
//Rezultat: <option value=##>Sekcja/Kategoria</option>
}
}
//End for each section
}?>
</select>
If you want a ready-to-go file, it is attached to this post. Just place it in your components/com_ja_submit directory, replacin the original file.
Enjoy.
Michal Romaniszyn
EDIT: Even better: replace "ORDER BY name" in the above code with "ORDER BY ordering", and you'll be able to manually control the order of sections and categories, by ordering them in the administrator panel ("Order" field in categories/sections manager). M.

i would like to have one more field which allow member to key in "price" field.
what i did is
1. use phpMyAdmin add a new column call "price" in `jos_content` table
2. Add the input field in "ja_submit.html.php"
<tr>
<td><label for="price"><?php echo _H_PRICE; ?>*</label>:</td>
<td><input class="inputbox" type="text" name="price" id="submit_price" size="50" maxlength="50" /></td>
</tr>
now my problem is i don't know how to insert the value into database. Does you guy have any ideal how to do this?
i found this code in ja_submit.php, is it the code something like this?
$row->title = ampReplace( $row->title );

Great Job Kolagen Your hack works great.
Has anybody hacked this to add a link to a rules file rather than trying to set them on the same page and also an "I agree to terms and Condition" radio button. I am in the process of building an industry specific "Article Submitting" website and this would be a required feature for me.
Any help would be great.

Someone had discussed this feature request at http://www.joomlart.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1007&highlight=frontpage , I want to remind the developers to add this feature in next version since you said you will update it in next month.
Thanks.

Hi,
I am missing a feature where users can choose if the content they submit is for public or registered users only. Also it would be nice if it could be configured if users are allowed to insert pictures or not.
Cheers

I like the Artio JoomSEF component. But it can't recognize Chinese characters. So I always set it to use Title Alias as the SEF URL source.
But when submit articles with JA Submit, there is no Title Alias field.
Please add it.
Thanks.

I'm giving your hack a try. I have over 100 identical categories so ja submit has been limited....hopefully up until now.
UPDATE:
Nice!

I would like to see JA Submit add an enhancement to include notification to send email (to administration...this field can be specified in configuration) when the user submits via JA Submit.
This would be really helpful rather than the admin checking every few hours to see any new submission. Thanks.

Never mind! I see there is a field called Email Notification in the configuration.
Sorry!

How those publishers CAN DELETE (already submitted) Topics/Items without entering Admin Panel?
Try to use MyContent Component. For me works like a charm:
