The Screen Resolution Configuration -- narrow, wide and optimize is a great feature to have in every template.

1. Inactivating the "Narrow" option

I do not like the "narrow" option, I deleted it physically in the index.php but for some reason the option is still there. Even after I refreshed or closed and reopened my browser (ensuring that I emptied the cache before re-opening). How can the "narrow" option be inactivated?

2. Coordinate the "Optimize" Screen Resolution Configuration with the Font Resizer Configuration

The best of all worlds is a process where the page layout and contents will fit the screen size, using the "Optimize" feature. However, the "optimized" layout must involve proportionate changes in the entire content, much like what happens on a television, film projections -- the images, text, etc, are proportionately resized.

It is doable obviously in other technologies, like the pdf format. Can the same be implemented in any template?

Thanks.

Yes to which one Menalto? [Do you happen to have any idea how to deal with the first question?]

I assume you are referring to the second question, and I hope the the Joomlart staff would focus on important features like this. This feature is badly needed since the trend is towards integration of the internet with home devices, like the television. In fact, even computer screens are getting bigger and bigger nowadays.

The iMac, if I am not mistaken has a default size of 17" and gearing more towards higher minimum size in the future. On the other hand, computer notebooks tend to have much smaller screens and devices like the iPhone are even much smaller.

A well-thought template of the future must be able to address all these size variations. Current resizing formats, such as the one currently used in the JA Teline, would not look good in larger size screens in one extreme and the text and images might not work at all in the iPhone or smaller devices -- unless those devices have already included a script to adapt to the miniaturization of internet site page. This is not the case though with current computer screens.

Yes to both:)

Wow, this would be great if it could be done -- many people could benefit from might seemingly a very simple feature.

For example, the population of the elderly citizens are growing in most countries, and many are also becoming computer and internet literate. This innovation alone could help them greatly, because poor eyesight increases with age, not to mention those who have signt impairment themselves.

Apart from such very critical appications, as I stated, such a simple feature would be able to address the trend where screens are going in both directions -- smaller and larger.

You should probably post this into the Request and Wishlist forum. I think that these would be great features to include with all templates especially the ability to have your website display on cell phones, etc. There is an extension already available to do this at Joomla.org but would be nice to have it incorporated already. Too bad Menalto is a volunteer and not part of the design team as it is easy to say yes it can be done but it will be pretty hard to get JA to do it.

Thanks bigrk,

Can you please provide the link to the Joomla extension that you stated. I will see what I can negotiate with Menalto, or some people I know who have scripting skills. Once it is shown in a functional website, I am sure template makers will copy the feature (by reverse engineering) -- just like the prototype of "minimum", "wide" and "variable" are becoming more applied in a number of templates I have seen from other companies..

Your suggestion about incorporating this in all templates is the reason why I support the other post that suggested "modular features", just like the JA News, the JD module, etc., that could then be mixed and matched by the webmaster for his/her own webpage

Maybe one of the Moderators will place this and my other related posts in the Request forum, as you suggested.
