I think you first need to read up on how Joomla works. Have you installed Joomla on your apache server?
Read first around in the joomla.org forum and documentation and setup joomla then you will in no time also learn how to add a template to your website.
First of all you need to install joomla ( from joomla.org )

suggest you read here http://www.netshinesoftware.com/joomla/joomla-tutorial.html for a joomla tutorial. Then when you're ready I suggest you install JSAS (Joomla Stand Alone Server) it includes the neccessary MYSQL, Apache and PHP (and of course Joomla) in one easy to install package. From here - http://jsas.joomlasolutions.com/ . The template comes last of all!
