Hi,

are these 'free beta releases' extensions free? I registered for a free membership and cannot donwload it. Is it necessary to get a club subscription or what?

Thanks in advance

I'm confused too, because it seems it should be free...

from what i believe they are free currently for beta testing.

however, they will become commercial components once all the bugs have been ironed out.

I'm sure somewhere on that linked page it says that if you do not wish to purchase the component AFTER the beta status has been removed then DO NOT download it.

Yes, but I should test it before I buy it, right? :)

yes - you can download it and test it - even try to break it - that's the whole point of beta testing.

but once the components have been announced by JA as no longer free. if you have a version of the the component - I'm guessing you'll have to uninstall it.

the perk is that you get to use it while you're testing it.

and last but not least - if you're happy with the component after it has gone from beta to full commercial then buy it.

I'm not a JA member of staff but I do believe in paying for what you want.

You don't get it - it's in beta and I CAN'T download it!

it's because you've not got a paid subscription as per your original message.

I've just tried it and yes I can download it.

True, I haven't got a paid subscription, but it says it's free, so I think it's self explanatory. This extensions isn't free!

fair enough - i'll send a message to JA to get them to reword their post.

one last point though.

think about it - you're an unpaid member (unlicensed) hence you cannot download the extensions. It just makes sense to let members who actually have contributed to this community to beta test it as JA probably feel they are trustworthy due to the subscriptions they have taken out with them.

I'm not having a go at you for not having a subscription but it's just common sense.
