Is there a way to load the templates manual vs using the upload template feature in Joomla. I can get the upload to work.

Have you tried to unzip the download package before uploading? Kindly remember that the download package include 3 folder

- Extentions
- Quickstart
- Templates

If you are installing the template to an existing Joomla installation, you can unzip the template zip file in Templates folder and uploading them to joomla/templates/ folder via FTP
